The ATEM Mini Pro is a powerful tool for video switching and integrating with multiple game consoles. We’ll show you how to connect the ATEM Mini Pro to your Castr livestream and multistream (simulcast) projects.

Step 1: Locate the ATEM Streaming XML file

Locate the file Streaming.XML on your computer:

  • Mac: /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Switchers/Streaming.XML
  • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackmagic Design\Blackmagic ATEM Switchers\ATEM Software Control\Streaming.XML

Tip: We recommend that you copy this file and keep one original copy as you will edit this file in the next steps.

You will need the RTMP endpoint and stream key to connect the ATEM Mini Pro to Castr.

  1. Open or create a project in Castr. How to set up Castr
  2. On the right, under Stream Source Setup, you’ll see the stream key and RTMP link of your stream. Save them for later.

Step 3: Edit the ATEM Streaming XML file

Open the Streaming XML file. You’ll see:

  • An RTMP link (for example, <url>rtmps://live-api-s.facebook.com:443/rtmp</url>). This is the RTMP endpoint of the destination to which you’re sending the data.
  • Various profiles that dictate at what bitrate the ATEM will send out your streams. You’ll have three streaming profiles for each destination: Streaming High, Streaming Medium, and Streaming Low. For each streaming profile, there will be two different bitrate figures, depending on your settings.

To edit the XML file, choose any profile (YouTube, Facebook, Twitch). Select from <service> to </service>. Copy and paste the codes in the same file.

Change the destination’s name to Castr or any reference name to Castr that you prefer. Then copy the RTMP link from Castr and paste it in between the <url> and </url> tags. Your code should look similar to this:

<service>
<name>Castr</name>
<servers>
<server>
<name>Castr</name>
<url>rtmp://us-central.castr.io/static</url>
</server>
</servers>
<profiles>
<profile>
<name>Streaming High</name>
<config resolution="1080p" fps="60">
<bitrate>9000000</bitrate>
</config>
<config resolution="1080p" fps="30">
<bitrate>6000000</bitrate>
</config>
</profile>
<profile>
<name>Streaming Medium</name>
<config resolution="1080p" fps="60">
<bitrate>7000000</bitrate>
</config>
<config resolution="1080p" fps="30">
<bitrate>4500000</bitrate>
</config>
</profile>
<profile>
<name>Streaming Low</name>
<config resolution="1080p" fps="60">
<bitrate>4000000</bitrate>
</config>
<config resolution="1080p" fps="30">
<bitrate>3000000</bitrate>
</config>
</profile>
</profiles>
</service>

You can also update the <bitrate> and <keyframe-interval> if appropriate.

Step 4: Connect the ATEM Mini Pro to Castr

  1. Open the Black Magic Software Control program on your computer
  2. Click the Output tab > Live Stream > under Platform, select Castr (or the name that you input before).
  3. Refer to the settings below:
  • Platform: Castr
  • Server: Default
  • Key: [Your Castr stream key]
  • Quality: Streaming Medium (or any mode of your choice)

Click ON AIR. The ATEM will start pushing streams to Castr. You should be able to see the preview on your Castr dashboard immediately.
